First published in 1776, this book's full title is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. Famously, the early part of the text advances the notion of the division of labor - whereby individual workers may be assigned specific tasks, which they complete faster than were they to do every task in sequence. The famous example used is one of pin manufacturing.
It was Adam Smith's abiding belief that proper division of labor across all kinds of manufacturing could power the economy to heights.
